Philcon

I'll be attending Philcon this year. If you have a burning desire to meet some annoying nitpicker, visit the I-CON party at the Marriott. I'll be there, turning on the charm.

The Interface Hall of Shame

As someone who has designed user interfaces in everything from Lotus Notes to Macromedia Flash (with a major stop at Asymmetrix Toolbook II), for years my favorite web site was the Interface Hall of Shame (link in title). Anyone who writes software or designs web pages should study it. One, it will teach you a lot, and two, it's really, really fun.

Trouble it, it's gone. The link above is to the Internet Archive's copy from 2002. If anyone knows how to contact its creator, Brian Hayes, once of the now-apparently-defunct IArchitect, I'd be very grateful.

There's also a (partially broken) mirror at Mac.com.

The alert reader will notice contributions from me, particularly in the more recent mirrors. One of my contributions to the HoS ended up being excerpted in the book GUI Bloopers by Jeff Johnson. (Warning, link is to a PDF file.) I don't so much mind Johnson not crediting me, but surely Brian deserved a credit?
